Impossible Shoota is a vertical scrolling shoot’em up game for Windows Phone 7 by Elbert Perez. We had informed you folks about this game when it went live on the Marketplace and now we have had the chance to give it a go and this is our review for this free accelerometer game.

Impossible Shoota is quite simple not many options or settings are given to the player, you start the game adjust the volume to your liking and you are good to go. The idea is to maneuver your spaceship called ” Starboxer ” that will keep shooing at everything in its path with its unlimited ammo supply. You level up by collecting the orbs left behind by the destroyed enemy spaceships. With the accelerometer controls you move your space ship from left to right, unfortunately you can’t move it forward and backward using the accelerometer. You also have the ability to teleport your spacecraft by clicking anywhere on the screen , its quite handy when you want to escape from a bunch of enemies heading straight for you. the developer has informed us there are 25 different enemies for you to destroy.

The game has a storyline, that goes something like this

You are the last Starboxer facing an armada from the Sho-dan empire, but you are not ready to die without taking out a chunk of their fleet. Power up your Starboxer to its full potential while unleashing a barrage of hurt to your mortal enemies. Jump around the battlefield using you teleportation abilities to inflict maximum damage. This is a suicide mission, but you will go down in history as the Starboxer that made the heroic last stand.

This is from the marketplace description of the game, there is no reference to this story in the actual game itself. One area where I felt the game did not deliver was the fact the game does not offer much to the social aspect of gaming : things like leaderboards to compare your score with your follow gamers, ability to brag about your score on Twitter / Facebook, etc. That said the game is still fun and casual gamers looking for a fun game that they can quickly get in to and play for a couple of minutes will find this worth the download. The game is free so there is no reason why you shouldn’t at least give it a go.

Update : The developer has informed us there is no boss level in this game, it progressively gets difficult with faster and denser waves of enemies. This goes on until it becomes impossible, hence the name. Also my 1.3 update got approved and will be on the marketplace tomorrow. This new update ads the much asked for online leaderboards.
