Quadrata is a connect the dots kinda game that is quite similar to Triangula. You will find that the menu is quite identical, that is coz the game comes from the same developer. Unlike Triangula where you had to form triangles , in Quadrata you are looking to create the outline for 2×2 squares. Check out our hand on review of this game.
Disclosure : The XAP was sent to us for review, we are told this is the final version of the game so the game that is available from the marketplace should be the same as far as gameplay goes.
Back in school I used to play a pencil and paper game called connect the dots / squares , where each player takes a turn to connect 2 dots with a line and the idea is to get the final line to form a square and you mark that as your territory, the player with the most number of square wins. The developer has taken this concept and added a bit of twist to it. In Quadrata you have to get the outline for a 2×2 square and once you get that that gets filled up with coins ( golden for the player and red for the AI / player 2 ).
There is an inbuilt text tutorial which will help you understand the basics and then you can jump straight in. Quadrata offers the player a single and a two player mode ( sadly the 2 player mode is 2 player on the same device, this game would have been a great candidate for a turn based multiplayer game on Windows Phone ). In the single player mode there are 4 levels of difficulty for the AI and 3 map size to choose from. The social spect of the game comes in the form of an online-leaderboard where players can submit their scores , the game gives the player some sort of grade depending on how well the player performs.
Quadrata also offers the player quite a bit of gameplay options from the in game menu. Including tracking your stats, playing on an empty or partially filled up. You can also choose which player should go first. If you want to go back and see how the game was won/lost you can do so using the rewind option which will show you all the moves that was played. The game offers some nice control you click on a dot to select it and the game will automatically show all the dots it can connect to , you can re-click the dot to de-select it. You will also notice that the game will save itself if you jump out of the game to do something else and you are able to continue from where you left off.
Final thoughts about the game : its a nice puzzle that that all puzzle fans will enjoy, but the lack of multiplayer ( over the network using push notifications ) was a disappointment , I do hope the dev will consider including that in the future. That said , its still a nice single player puzzle game and when its for Free , there is no real reason why you shouldn’t give it a go.
