We are now seeing a lot more games with the WP7 and xbox 360 integration and I secretly hope to see real time multi-player squeezed in with the Mango update ( this is me just hoping, there has been no positive indication of this from any source , but hey a guy can hope to see it cant he ? ). Back to the game at hand Fable Coin Golf , its a kinda like a mini golf / Shove ha’penny game where you try to rid the land of evil using your Hero Puck and guide it to the Pillar of Light in as few shots as possible.
First things first the integration with Fable III, the gold that you collect in Fable Coin Golf on Windows Phone 7 can be transferred to Fable III Xbox 360 and Windows PC games, so now you can get stuff on Fabel III on the way to work / school. This is certainly a great incentive if you own Fabel III on xBox 360. Once you beat all levels you do unlock a weapon of some sort, unfortunately I dint get a screenshot of the unlocked weapon nor can I recall the name of the item :(.
When you launch the game you get a run down of the various powerups and obstacles and a bit of info on how to play the game. The settings in the game offer the basic SFX and music volume controls along with the ability to toggle the shoot button. The game offers 45 levels equally split up in to 3 chapters, you unlock each level by getting one of the 3 medals in the previous level. When you get in to the game you often find that 3 characters Mark, Jim and Ben will often pop up with funny comments and helpful advice about each level. You have a lot of control when it comes to the viewing angle and can manually adjust it using the slider on the left , you also pull of a quick aerial view of the board to have a better understanding of where each of the enemies and key power-ups are present and can plan your shots accordingly .
What I really liked about the game is that the level are beautifully designed with a nice variety of enemies, power ups, obstacles and terrain. The game has a lot of elements like cannon, portals and what not that makes the game quite interesting to play. There is some replay value in the tile coz you can push yourself to get the gold medals in each level to unlock the achievements, some of the levels was quite easy to pull off but some of them will require quite a bit of planning.. but once the 45 levels are up there is not much in the game that might entice you to come back and replay the game , but you can keep earning gold that can be used in Fable III, which will be incentive enough for xBox 360 owners.
To sum it up Fable Coin Golf is a great game for Windows Phone 7 , even if you don’t own Fable III, you can still have a lot of fun with the game on your Phone. Multiplayer is not something that might work well with this game but I would love to see a level editor for this game , so users can generate various levels and share it with friends.
