Bowling XX

Imagine Wii bowling, but on a phone. That’s pretty much what Bowling XX is. It uses the accelerometer for bowing. Sadly, just as with the Wii, you could probably lie on a sofa, twitching your wrist slightly & get the same result, but it’s still a great little novelty. But don’t worry, if you are the nervous type, afraid you will end up hurling your lovely Windows Phone into your lovely HD flat-screen telly & destroy the both of them – you can use the other method of playing, where you draw a line on the screen which represents where you want the ball to go.

There are single-player & multi-player modes (the second of which involves simply passing your device to the other players instead of playing against other devices) but no kind of campaign to work through, which I think is a shame. A scoreboard keeps a record on how many games you’ve played & how well you’ve done. This also leads you to a ‘Global Ranking’ page which shows you the best 20 players from across the world. Progressing through the game will unlock new wallpapers, which you can apply & will appear in the game. Something else they could have done would be to add different bowling balls you could win over time, just something a little more exciting than wallpaper.

It’s quite fun to play with & it’s nice showing off the games ‘Wii’-ness to friends, but the novelty does wear off over time. Still, as far as bowling games for phones go, I think Bowling XX is pretty good. There’s a free trial if you fancy having a go with it.
