Astral Battles
Back in the days Orions: Legend of Wizards was a hugely popular game on Windows Mobile, so much so they released 2 expansion packs for the game. They pretty much got all the awards when it came to games on the PocketPC and I am quite confident if you ever had a Windows Mobile and were in to gaming you would have come across that title. Enough about Orions , we are here to talk about Astral Battles a fantasy card game that was recently introduced to me via the developers email.
Astral Battles follows the same basic gameplay style similar to all fantasy card games and look like a windows phone version of spectromancer.com, this version does not have a multiplayer mode but offers a tournament mode and offers the player 6 specialization each with its own unique abilities and cards. Once you complete a tournament mode we get a hint that multiplayer is coming soon, so I will hold off the review till that versions goes up .
According to the developer
In Astral Battles, a fantasy card game, players participate in a magical duel against other mages by strategically summoning creatures and casting spells. Each mage uses five magical elements during a duel – Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Death. Players are able to duel against the computer or each others at this moment. Astral battles has more than 50 cards and spells, 30 unique card’s abilities and 8 opponents to duel. It’s absolutely free and hasn’t any advertisement.
some early criticism about the AI , I am not sure if its a bug or by design : In some of the tournament battles I did see that the AI could summon level 10 cards with 0 elements in their possession.. while this can be frustrating in a tough battle and was a lame implementation of AI in a strategy game. That said the AI was quiet easy to beat and I won a tournament quite easily with the Necromancer class. One other thing I would like to see is the list of cards in a how to or help section , which will help me learn about the various spells and creatures I can summon. We will dive more in to these in the full review.
I do have high hopes for this one and hope to see the multiplayer version up soon and them it’s battling time.

Love the game! Very addictive!
I have a HTC hd7 windows phone, how do i get this game and how do i download Adobe flash player for my phone.
just click on the download for windows phone button in the orange box and you can download it ..
As for flash they is no support for it ( yet )
Make this an XBOX game , I know I will spend a lot of time on this game , might as well earn achievements for it .

I’ve just finished an update v.1.3 where I added:
- redesigned 5th element (now it will be like in original game) – player may choose one from list (now available only two: death and sorcery, but I’ll add some soon).
- fixed bugs with A.I.
- fixed bugs in a hot-seat mode (now one is able to duel with A.I. not only with another player)
It will be available at Tuesday or maybe at Wednesday.
PS: I had sumbitted v.1.2 at first, but It contained a serious bug and I can’t remove it from certification stage, so now I am waiting when I’ll be able to submit v.1.3.
any word on when we get multiplayer ?
Did you mean ONLINE multiplayer? I am in progress now and now looking for good hosting for the game server. I don’t know when I’ll finish it (maybe by the end of this year).
I wish to implement peer-to-peer games without a server, but WP7 platform disallows this :-( (sockets can’t listen).
In current version you are allowed to play with your friend on a single device (hot-seat mode).
Sounds great , I was asking about online milti-player mode .. cant’t wait to play it .
Nice game, but needs more cards and turn by turn multiplayer is a must for this game

Orions Series was better than sex . I was a huge fan of the game on Windows Mobile and then on the iPhone. I hope they make it for WP7 too but till then I will have to try Astral Battles. The screen capture look pretty darn amazing :) :) :)
