Chances are during some point in your life you’ve come across the board game Scrabble. Wooden Tiles and a game board. AlphaJax brings this game play into the 21st century, with nice visuals and Multiplayer mode. AlphaJax uses lettered tiles as pieces. The object of the game is to get as many points as you can by spelling words with the tiles you have in your hand. Every letter has points associated with it marked in the bottom corner of the tile. Tiles that are easy to use like vowels have less points, whereas tiles that are more difficult to use, like z or x, get you more points. Check out the full review below
Also within the game are bonus spaces that give you multipliers for your tiles.
- DW stands for Double Word score which doubles the points of the words you put on the board
- TW is Triple Word score which triples the points of the words you put on the board
- DL is double letter score which double the points of the tile you placed over it
- TL is Triple Letter score which triple the points of the tile you placed over it
One of the best things about AlphaJax is its online integration. It includes Facebook and Twitter integration that allow you to post your results and invite friends to play, but what really stands out is the multiplayer functionality. Not only can you play ‘local’ games by playing your turn and passing it to your friend but you can also play with other players online. These friends can either be picked at random from the AlphaJax network or you can invite people in your contacts to play with you as well.
Another part of the integration that makes this game so great is the live tile integration and push notifications. The push notification will alert you in the same way an incoming text message alerts you that it’s arrived, but the live tile is what is most impressive. When it is your turn to play in one of your games there is a notification in the tile on your start screen that indicates how many games it’s your turn in. This eliminates the hassle of having to reopen the game to see when you are supposed to take your turn.
Overall this game is a great way to pass the time. It’s a game that you can jump in an jump out of. Unless you are playing with a friend and passing the phone back and forth you can’t expect to play online multiplayer for extended periods of time as you have to wait for the other person to take their turn. It’s a game that you play when you have a moment here and there throughout your day. And with being able to play up to 30 games at one time you can be as busy or lazy as you want with this game, not to mention with a fully functional ad-supported free version and paid ad-free version you get the best of both worlds.
