Alchemic Phone 7

Alchemic Phone 7 for some reason took me back to the Chemistry class room , it might have something to do with the way the game’s main interface reminded me of a periodic table , with various elements arranged in a tabular format or perhaps its got something to do with mixing various elements to form new stuff or it might be a bit of both. When you look at the screenshots from the marketplace it might seem like a periodic table gone wrong and not much of a game. So after trying on the game what did I think about it ? Well read on to find out :)

Alchemic Phone 7 is not the sort of game that you come across every day ( vertical scrollers , word puzzle those are genre that you come across ever so often on windows phone 7 ) I am not sure what genre it fits in to , it could be a puzzle game of sorts. The idea behind the game is to find all the 395 elements ( i use the term loosely coz not all of them are strictly elements ).

You start of the game with 5 categories or Realms and there are 6 elements available to you that are part of any one of these realms . Now you have to mix and match these elements to form new elements and at times this will unlock a new realm. The graphics employed for this game are quite simple but effective enough to convey the message. There is a small world icon that shows your progress and clicking on it will show you detailed stats about each realm and how many elements you have discovered in each of them. You can further drill down to each elements and see all the reactions you have performed using that element.

You will eventually run in to a few elements that you think would mix well and create something new but the game might have other plans for it but the dev has included a suggest button that will pop up when 2 elements mix to form nothing, so you can suggest a possible new element to the dev. After the initial success you will probably end up thinking there is no further combination possible and thankfully there is a hint button that will give you one hint per day that might help you figure out a new element.

Final thoughts on the game ? Well this is a game that some will like while others might not find it very interesting. I was not very impressed with the game when I first saw it , I deleted it after a while but … later in the day I kinda had an idea and wanted to mix an element with itself and see if that would work so I went back and downloaded it again .. any game that makes me do this deserves a spot in my games hub. Something about discovering new elements is fun in some unexplainable kind of way. I am kinda waiting to unlock Heart then I am going to summon Captain Planet by mixing Earth, Fire, Wind, Water and Heart :D . The game is free and is worth a try if you like it you will keep going back to it and could unleash the mad scientist in you to discover new elements .. If I had to give a suggestion it would be to get some nice graphics in future version and allow me to summon the Cap ;)

Hey, thanks for the review !

The main points of this reincarnation of the old DOS Alchemy game are that it was built from scratch (most games repeat the usual combinations) and size/extensivity through user interactions. We already got more than 300 good suggestion, which will probably trigger a realm reorganization and increase in number. The blog linked at the end of the post is a good place to talk about it if you’re interested.

I would VERY gladly implement Captain Planet the way you say if the game would allow more than 2 elements to combine. In fact, I think that I will develop a sequel, where you can combine 3+ elements to create crazy stuff, but where you can only use the elements you unlocked in this one. At the moment what do you say if we give you Captain Planet with Planet + Sailor ? hehe

And agreed: my graphic skill aren’t my shiniest part.

Thanks again !
