Air Soccer Fever : an addictive multi-player game for Windows Phone

Air Soccer Fever is a soccer version of Air Hockey that is a joy to play. With simple control and a mutiplayer gameplay options the game has all the making of a winning title. I don’t usually say this but you can jump over and download this one without going through the review and chances are you will love it. But if you like to see what we have to say jump on past the break for our full video review.
We have seen many Air Hockey titles for Windows Phone replace one of that with a soccer skin and add some soccer gameplay elements to it and you get a basic Air Soccer , now add multiplayer and promise cross platform support to that and now you have Air Soccer Fever .
When you launch the game you have the option to set your home team from one of the 96 available team ( some of which has team specific chants ), each team is represented by their country flag. You can also go through your stats and rank on the main page. The main page also has access to the leader boards in the form of a small button on the bottom left edge of the screen you can look the various leaderboard options and also check out the various unlockable Achievements offered via the game . eg : win a game with one man down , etc. Sadly the game does not offer any notification when you unlock an achievement :(
In settings you can choose the number of players on each side ( 1-3 ) , the difficulty level , game speed and toggle fouls. The game has an interesting rule regarding fouls : players are carded every 4 fouls ( 2 in World Class difficulty ) , a yellow card comes first then Red and that player gets sent off , as far as I can tell there is no foul big enough to get your player an instant red card. Players with a yellow card are marked with a yellow card, sadly it does not show you how many individual foul a player has got which can be a bit frustrating at times. The way I see it they are nice changes to the official rule to suit this style of gameplay. Fouls included : hitting an opponent directly or blocking your goal post with your players inside the goal post.
The game works on a turn based system each player gets a 6 second turn ( 4 seconds in World Class ) , the active players are indicated with solid color and a small circle around them the other player is shown with a translucent effect, this distinction works quite well for the game. Another hint here is you can take a shot immediately after you opponent , this is a good way to block incoming goals. The aim of game is to out score you opponent in the give time. The AI does a good job most off the them but there were a couple of situations where the AI might refuse to take a shot at the ball and will just pass the turn to you .. you can use this to your advantage to unlock some of those achievements ;) .The game seems to understand my commands really well , I have only noticed a couple of times when the game did not perform the move I wanted it to do.
Along with the standard play the game offers a knockout tournament and local WiFi multi player and an WiFi over the internet mode. This is an area I have some issue with I was getting put in to servers with significant lag ( over 300 most of the time ) and most of the games were unplayable .. I had a chat wit the devs and they informed me that the game does not have servers in Australia and this could be the cause of this issue, a couple of mates in the UK and US seems to have no issue with this. So I am not going to discredit the game for this, but I beg the dev to put up a server downunder too , we would love to get in on the multiplayer action too :).
One other thing that I like about the game is that the Windows RT version will soon get multiplayer mode which will allow Windows 8 vs Windows Phone games .. now that will be sweet :). Here is the link to the Windows RT version.
To sum it up : go get the game its quite nice but there are few things that could be improved. Live adding a foul count on players , it would also be nice to show the current score on the gameplay screen and some sort of Unlockable Custom Skins for players would be a nice addition too , say you get skill points for every win and you use those to unlock custom skins these could be in the from of Soccer Clubs and other items.
