Belts and Boxes : a great physics game for windows phone

Belts and Boxes is a great game that is almost perfect. The whole idea of the game revolves around getting your box ( he is called Boxy ) from the start to the destination platform , sounds easy ? Well once you take a look at the various belts and hazards in your way , you will soon change your opinion. The game offers a simple menu where you can jump in to the game , go through the list of unlock able achievements or toggle misc and sound effects from the options menu.
Once you go in to play you can pick one of 4 stages from warehouse, Caves, Sky and another one to which I have not got to yet. Each of this is split in to 15 levels each thus giving you 60 levels in total. In each stage you have 3 stars the while it’s not required you collect them , picking them up give you that many stars for each level.. you need those stars to unlock levels as you go along , so it’s a good idea to collect as many as you can. In most of the levels you don’t have to rush as there is no time penalty but at times you have time limited stars in a round so you need to hurry up to get all the 3 stars.

The game follows the same 3 stars level system made famous on mobile games by Angry Birds and while they are optional completing a level with 3 stars gives you bragging rights. Which brings us to the social aspect of the game .. there is none. No leaderboard, multiplayer or anything of the sort, I suppose those features might not have worked well will this game’s design BUT I would love to see a level editor for making custom levels and the ability to share them with your friends sounds like a great feature request to the developers ( feel free to bombard them with that request ;) )
There is an inbuilt walk-through that shows you how to play the game. It’s fairly simple and most of you should be able to pick it up fairly quickly. While you play the game if you find a particular level to be too hard for you , you can skip that and go to the next level, I am sure we all can appreciate the use of that ( no one like to be stuck on a uber hard / buggy level ). There are a series of levers , switches and buttons that lets you manipulate various objects that will help Boxy reach the final platform. The game also tests your puzzle solving skills and the physics engine seems to work well , so moving a belt faster will push Boxy further than when the belts are moving at a slower pace , you will also see tis come in to play when you knock stuff down. One of the best part about the game was that the devs keeps throwing new stuff at you every couple of levels and this keeps you interested in pushing fwd through the levels. So from simple belts , you move on to bidirectional belts , flame throwers that could destroy boxy to fans that let Boxy fly.. all these new elements you find along the way gets you thinking on how to make best use of them to get all three stars and land on the final platform. ( I say land on the platform because if you hit the platform and fall off you have to restart the levels ) . Another suggestion I have is to made the level restart automatically once you fall down, right now you have to manually click on the restart button. The developer has also thrown in about 10 achievements which wont require a lot of grinding and most of them will get unlocked as you play along.
If you are in to a bit of puzzle game with some physics thrown in there then Belts and Boxes will be a great addition to your collection , I hope the developers do plan on adding more levels and with 60 levels it’s certainly worth checking out for $0.99
